Writing a Counter Argument Essay FormatThe counter argument essay format is one of the most popular essay formats used by writers, professors and teachers. This form helps a writer to successfully and correctly argue for his or her point of view in a persuasive manner.
The arguments that an essay should contain should be grammatically correct and readable. An argument must not be built upon a lie, nor a flimsy foundation, but rather should be based on facts, data and logic. There are two main styles for writing counter argument essays, a direct and indirect style.
Direct Argument: In a direct argument, the argument is stated in a straightforward manner, without the fluff, and with simple words, and therefore does not cause confusion. In a direct argument, it is emphasized that the writer states his/her opinion first, then goes on to state the facts and circumstances to support that opinion.
Indirect Argument: In an indirect argument, the writer will begin by stating his/her opinion and then go on to state the facts and circumstances that support that opinion. In an indirect argument, the writer will try to persuade the reader that he/she is the best person to speak on the subject matter and provide them with the information they need to make a valid argument. The writer will introduce each factor that supports his/her opinion and use it to form the basis of the argument. The writer will then explain the reasons why the reader should support their position, and why it is better than the other perspective.
A writer's opinions are their greatest assets, and a strong and accurate argument makes a strong resume. Be careful with the actual argument that you provide in your essay, as you should not repeat the facts.
It is important to make a link between the facts and the feelings that the reader would have about them. Most people that are writing on a topic would do their best to avoid repeating facts, because they feel as if this will sound less convincing. However, if your point is clear, and your facts are strong, you should feel free to employ facts when necessary.
Using the counter argument format to write your college essay is a wonderful tool. It allows you to easily construct a persuasive argument for your position, and do so in a way that everyone involved can see the logic behind your position.
